Over a month ago, I ordered a Dell Vostro A90 (the all black “business” version of the Dell Mini 9) with Ubuntu, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB SSD, Bluetooth, and VGA webcam for about $200 on sale.
I also picked up a 2 GB RAM module and a Runcore 16 GB SSD for another $100…
The Vostro A90 finally arrived last week, and after upgrading the RAM and SSD, I promptly installed Mac OS X 10.5.7 on it for some tasty HackBook nano action – take a look at my pictures.
Everything is supported and working like a charm via the Type11/DellEFI method – it’s truly remarkable!
There’s no doubt the Nokia E75 is a great device. But the camera really surprised me…
With 3.2 a megapixel sensor, auto-focus, macro, a single LED flash, and VGA video recording at 30 fps, the E75 camera specs fall somewhere in between the “meh” Nokia 5800 camera (which features dual LED flash and Zeiss optics) and the mediocre E66/E71 camera (which only features QVGA video recording at 15 fps).
But in reality, the E75 leaves the 5800 in the dust, beats the decent T-Mobile G1 and teases the excellent BlackBerry Storm to the finish line – check out the pictures and judge for yourself!
Last Friday I received a Sharp/T-Mobile Sidekick LX to review from the folks at T-Mobile… It’s a lovely “orchid” color!
So what’s so special about this device?
- It’s the first Sidekick with 3G, GPS, and a potentially worthy camera (3.2 megapixel, auto-focus, macro, LED flash, geo-tagging)
- It’s the first device in the world (perhaps?) with built-in Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace integration
- It’s the first phone in the US with a 854×480 pixel display (WVGA)
- It’s my first time using a Sidekick, and my first Sharp device
And what’s missing?
- WiFi
- Google Talk and Jabber support
It’s time for another podcast (25 min) with Matthew Bennett:

This Last week we discussed the HTC Touch Pro/Fuze, the Nokia E75, and the Sharp/T-Mobile Sidekick LX!
Other topics include what we baptized “the June tsunami” of upcoming devices: the Palm Pre, the Nokia N97, the Samsung i8910 (Omnia HD) and of course the next iPhone…

The Nokia N79 is a stealthy device. Figuratively, because it’s been flying under people’s radar, overshadowed by it’s slider twin, the Nokia N85. Literally, because beneath its elegant but understated, thin and light casing, there’s a bona fide, feature-packed Nseries phone.
I’ve been using the N79, US version (UMTS/HSDPA 1900/850 MHz) for a couple months now (thanks to Molly at Nokia Blogger Relations) and I’m suitably impressed – it’s very much the sleeper of the current Nseries stable. Take a look at my recap video.
Oh hai! I can has Sharp/T-Mobile Sidekick LX for review, and it’s “orchid” purple… PURPLE :)
More soon.
Soon after reaching out to the HTC folks at CTIA, I received an HTC Fuze to review. The HTC Fuze is AT&T’s locked and branded version of the HTC Touch Pro. This is my first review unit from HTC, and hopefully the first of many. Within about an hour of getting the phone, I unlocked and unbranded it into an HTC Touch Pro (sans front-facing camera).
I’ve been using the Nokia E75, US version for a little over a week and I’m very much in love :)
I was in Montréal on a business trip for most of the week, so I was able to evaluate it in a proper setting.
First impressions? Like most other Eseries devices, build quality is top-notch. The E75 looks and feels expensive. The back cover is stainless steel and is laser-etched for better grip. The spring-assisted slider feels buttery smooth and makes a satisfying sound.
