Unboxing the Kin One and Kin Two

May 31, 2010

Last week the friendly folks at Verizon sent me not one, but two review units: the Kin One and Kin Two!

Both devices are made by Sharp and run a social networking-centric OS based on the upcoming Windows Phone 7 from Microsoft.

The hardware is of typical modern smartphone fare, with a capacitive touchscreen, a full set of radios and sensors (3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS & accelerometer), and a physical landscape slider keyboard…

Google Nexus One vs. HTC Incredible camera

May 30, 2010

Nexus One sample pictures (slide show):

Incredible sample pictures (slide show):

Wow. I’ve carried the Google Nexus One in my pocket every day for almost 6 months now. As my primary phone, it’s been with me to Seattle, Sydney, and Los Angeles – I’ve snapped hundreds of shots with it!

While not best-in-class, the Nexus One takes much better pictures with its single LED flash equipped 5 megapixel AF camera than any HTC device before it – in fact, it’s good enough for me the majority of the time, and I’m picky :)

So, when the HTC Incredible landed in my dirty little hands a month ago with its dual LED flash equipped 8 megapixel AF camera, I was both excited and intrigued. How would it fare?

As it turns out, the Incredible (like the HTC EVO 4G, which uses a similar sensor and optics) improves upon the Nexus One to represent the finest HTC currently has to offer. See for yourself after the break…

Quickie: LG BL40 (Chocolate)

May 29, 2010

This post and my post on the LG KM900 (Arena) are intentionally similar because both devices are extremely similar.

One of my coworkers recently let me take a euro-spec LG BL40 (Chocolate) for a spin…

It’s a super sexy feature phone that was introduced last fall in LG’s “Black Label” series, and while the software is nothing to write home about, the hardware is actually quite decent!

So how does it stack up? Find out after the break :)

Netbook Summit 2010

May 25, 2010

During my lunch break today, I briefly poked my head in at the Netbook Summit!

It was great opportunity to see the latest netbooks from manufacturers like Dell and Toshiba, as well as devices using technology from nVidia and AMD.

I even played with an Acer Liquid smartphone (above) and JKK‘s über sexy Hanvon B10 tablet running ExB‘s PTPT user interface on top of Windows 7…

It was also a chance to hang out with fellow bloggers from all over the planet, including Joanna Stern of Engadget, Sascha Pallenberg of Netbook News, and Johannes Knapp of newgadgets.de

Enjoy some pictures :)

Unboxing the HTC EVO 4G, part 2

May 21, 2010

Hot on the heels of yesterday’s initial unboxing of the HTC EVO 4G, here are additional pictures (slide show) and videos (above & after the break)!

The pictures include comparisons between the EVO 4G, the Incredible, the Nexus One, the Hero, and the iPhone 3GS – there’s even an OQO Model 01+ cameo…

Unboxing the HTC EVO 4G, part 1

May 21, 2010

Move over HTC Incredible, the HTC EVO 4G is here!

Take the Incredible, replace the 3.7″ OLED screen with a massive 4.3″ TFT screen (same 800×480 pixel resolution), add 4G (WiMax), HD video recording (720p), HDMI ouput, a front-facing camera (1.3 megapixel), and a kickstand – that’s the EVO 4G…

Unboxing the Nukia O1/Q1 (fake Nokia 7705)

May 14, 2010

Oh KIRF, how we love you :)

Chris Zeigler reminded me today of the Nukia O1/Q1, a fake Nokia 7705 (Twist) which I acquired several months ago…

I’ll let my unboxing pictures and video do the talking – enjoy the quirky goodness (and some specs) after the break!
